Orlando Heads to Brazil to Play Flamengo on Sunday

Trip Primer

On Thursday night, Orlando City players and staff will board a plane at Orlando International Airport and take an overnight trip to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. On Sunday afternoon they’ll help Flamengo celebrate their 120th anniversary with a friendly at the world famous Maracanã.

When the team arrives in Rio Friday morning, they’ll speak with some of the local media and then head to the team hotel on Copacabana Beach. After a few hours to rest, the team will hit the beach for what will surely be the most scenic training session of the season.

Saturday afternoon, the team will have the luxury of training at Maracanã. It will be the players’ first opportunity to step foot on this historic ground and will help set the tone for next day’s match.

On Sunday, the team will go through their normal pre-match routine at the hotel. This includes meetings, preparation, treatment, and team meals. They’ll then board a bus to Maracanã for the 12:30 p.m. ET match (3:30 p.m. local time). Flamengo and Orlando City will follow a match between the Flamengo “Artists and Masters.” The “Artists” team will consist of local celebrities and entertainers, while the “Masters” squad contains legends from Flamengo’s past.

In partnership with Walt Disney World, the Flamengo vs. Orlando City SC match will be streamed live in Portuguese on OrlandoCitySC.com.

The day following the match, Orlando City players and staff have a trip planned to Morro Do Vidigal to host a short clinic for local boys and girls. The team will then conclude their trip, catching a red eye back to Orlando.
