Orlando City volunteers at Second Harvest Food Bank

OCS at Second Harvest Food Bank

On Tuesday, June 4, several Orlando City players were out at Second Harvest Food Bank sorting and boxing donated products for the “in-need” communities within the Central Florida area. Jonathan Mendoza, Freddie Braun, Bryan Burke and Anthony Pulis all leant a hand in the boxing, making the event that much better. In addition to Orlando City players several staff and foundation members volunteered three hours of their time to get in on the action.

The Orlando team had a great time and the event proved to be a great bonding experience. The players developed an efficient strategy for sorting and boxing meats into categories, poultry, beef, pork and other. Mendoza proved to be a master boxer, Freddie was a speedster with the tape machines, while Bryan Burke had a more laid-back attitude. The California native operated on west coast speeds, eventually earning the nickname “Turkey Burkie” while sorting the poultry section.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects and distributes donated food to more than 500 nonprofit partner agencies in six Central Florida counties, including: Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Orlando City was happy to volunteer time for such a great cause within the community, thank you for having us out! In addition to Second Harvest Food Bank, Orlando City was happy to see To Be Kind, Lake Brantley High students and Rob Valentino’s partnering Player Cause volunteering their time with the Food Bank!
