ORLANDO, Fla. (May 20, 2025) – Orlando City SC has signed homegrown goalkeeper Javier Otero to a new, multi-year contract through the 2026 season with club options for 2027 and 2028, it was announced today.
“We’re delighted to offer a new contract to Javi, who has been a prime example of our developmental pathway at work,” said Ricardo Moreira, Orlando City SC General Manager & Sporting Director. “We look forward to seeing Javi further his growth here with the Club."
A product of the Club’s Academy, Otero is in his second full season with Orlando City. The 22-year-old has logged three appearances, two as starts, and registered a shutout across all competitions since signing a First Team deal in July 2023.
Otero joined Orlando City’s youth development pathway in 2017, first with the Orlando City Academy before debuting with Orlando City B in 2020 while the side was a member of USL League One. The Venezuela native notably led MLS NEXT Pro in saves (100) when his side transitioned to the league for its inaugural season in 2022. He became just the second goalkeeper from the Orlando City Academy to join the First Team.
At the international level, Otero made his debut with the Venezuelan national team in a friendly against Colombia on December 10, 2023. He was recently called up for Venezuela’s friendly against the U.S. in January, along with La Vinotinto’s World Cup Qualifiers in March.
