ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2024) – Orlando City SC and defender Robin Jansson have agreed to a new two-year contract that will keep the center back in the City Beautiful through 2025, with a Club option in 2026.

"Since Robin joined us in 2019, we’ve seen him become the focal point of our backline and one of the key leaders within our group,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “He’s shown a passion for his teammates and this city that is visible in everything he does. Our defense has become one of the best in the league, with Robin is a very big part of that transformation and getting him signed for another couple years was a key part of our plans for the future.”

Since Joining the Lions in the 2019 season from AIK in Sweden’s top tier, the 32-year-old defender has made 153 starts in 159 appearances for the Club, tallying five goals and notching three assists in that time. Jansson stands as the only player in Club history to feature in more than 150 matches for Orlando City and remains the Club’s all-time appearance leader.

“I’m very happy to sign a new contract and continue the journey we started in 2019,” Jansson said. “I want to thank the Club for all the support they have been giving me and for having confidence in me. To our fans, thank you for your love and support.”

The Bengtsfors, Sweden native led the Lions in MLS appearances in 2023, featuring in all 34 of the Lions’ regular-season matchups, and shares the title across all competitions in 2023 with winger Iván Angulo at 43 matches played last year. The center back also started in six of the Lions’ seven Audi MLS Cup Playoffs matches, only missing 2022’s matchup with CF Montréal following a season-ending surgery.

Jansson led a backline that helped the Club to post a new Club record 14 clean sheets across all competitions, including two in the playoffs against Nashville SC and one in the Club’s first appearance in the Concacaf Champions League, keeping Liga MX’s Tigres UANL from scoring at El Volcán in Monterrey.
