ORLANDO, Fla. (June 6, 2016) – Orlando City SC will face the North American Soccer League’s (NASL) Jacksonville Armada in the fourth round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 15 at 7 p.m. The match will be played at Southern Oak Stadium on the campus of Jacksonville University.
The Armada defeated the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League (USL) 2-1 in the third round on Wednesday, June 1. Patrick Otte scored in the 17th minute before Charleston’s Chris Tonis equalized five minutes later, eventually forcing extra time. Alhassane Keita scored the game winner in the 108th minute.
Charleston advanced to the third round despite losing to Premier Development League side The Villages SC, who were disqualified after the May 18th match for fielding an ineligible player. NASL teams enter in the third round while Major League Soccer teams enter the annual tournament in the fourth round.
Orlando City has advanced for the quarterfinals twice in its history. In 2013, while still in the USL, Orlando City defeated MLS sides Colorado Rapids and Sporting Kansas City before being eliminated by the Chicago Fire. In its inaugural 2015 MLS season, Orlando City defeated Charleston and the Columbus Crew before falling to Chicago.
