ORLANDO, Fla. (July 25, 2022) - Orlando City SC has acquired 23-year-old winger Iván Angulo on loan from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras of Brazil’s Série A, it was announced today. Angulo joins the Lions on a 12-month loan with an option to extend an additional six months, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and ITC.
“Iván is a talented and creative winger that has international experience going to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for Colombia and has played in the first division in Portugal,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “We believe his ability to take players one-on-one and the danger he creates down the flanks are going to be great assets for us as we push towards the end of this season.”
A product of Envigado F.C. in Colombia, Angulo spent the 2019 season on loan from Envigado at Palmeiras and officially joined the Brazilian giants on January 1, 2020. Since joining Palmeiras, the 23-year-old has had successful loan spells at Brazil’s Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, as well as Portugal’s Portimonense S.C.
Angulo has totaled four goals and five assists across 65 appearances in all competitions since beginning his professional career. The San Andrés de Tumaco native started all five matches in Colombia’s run at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, scoring one goal and providing three assists in that competition, and has also previously featured for Colombia’s U-23 National Team, making his U-23 debut on January 19, 2020 against Argentina’s U-23s and making four appearances for the side all-time.
