ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2026) – Orlando City SC has acquired defender Iago Teodoro, commonly known as Iago, from CR Flamengo of Série A, Brazil’s top flight, the club announced today. Iago will join the Lions via transfer as a U22 Initiative player through the 2028-29 Major League Soccer season, pending receipt of his P‑1 visa and International Transfer Certificate.
“Iago is a talented young defender with experience at one of the best youth and professional clubs in the world,” said Orlando City SC General Manager and Sporting Director Ricardo Moreira. “He has shown a strong competitive mentality, leadership qualities beyond his years that took him to lead Brazil’s U-20 squad as a captain in the latest FIFA U-20 World Cup. Iago also has an ability to contribute on both sides of the ball. We believe his profile fits well within our long‑term vision, and we’re excited to bring him here in Orlando.”
Iago, 20, a product of the CR Flamengo academy, made his professional debut for Flamengo’s U‑20 side in July 2022 before making his first appearance for the Mengão in a 0–0 draw against Portuguesa do Rio in January 2024 in the Campeão Carioca. The defender has made 68 appearances for Flamengo and its U‑20 side across all competitions, scoring 14 goals in just over 5,000 minutes played.
During his time with Flamengo, the center back won numerous trophies and titles, including the U‑17 Brazilian Championship in 2021; the U‑20 Intercontinental Cup in 2023–24 and 2024–25; the U‑20 Copa Libertadores in 2023–24, where he claimed the Golden Boot with four goals, and in 2024–25; the Brazilian Cup in both 2022 and 2024; the Campeão Carioca in 2023–24 and 2024–25; and most recently Série A with the first team in 2025.
A native of Volta Redonda, Brazil, Iago has featured 13 times for Brazil’s U‑20 national team, scoring three goals, with appearances in U‑20 international friendlies, the U‑20 South American Championship—winning the tournament in 2025—and the FIFA U‑20 World Cup, where he served as captain for the Seleção U‑20s.
