ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2025) — Orlando City SC defender Alex Freeman has been named to Major League Soccer’s prestigious 22 Under 22 list, recognizing the league’s top young talent.

The 21-year-old right back has had a standout season, making 25 starts in 28 MLS appearances for the Lions, and 32 starts in 36 matches across all competitions. Freeman has scored six goals and provided two assists in league play, along with three additional assists in other competitions.

Among defenders in MLS this season, only Minnesota’s Anthony Markanich (nine goals) has scored more than Freeman. Just five other defenders, Markanich, Kai Wagner, Jordi Alba, Andrew Gutman and Andy Nájar, have recorded more total goal contributions in league play.

To be eligible for the 22 Under 22 list, players must be 21 or younger as of Decision Day (October 18), meaning they must have been born after October 19, 2003.

Freeman was recently called up to the United States Men’s National Team for upcoming friendlies against Ecuador on Friday, Oct. 10 in Austin, Texas, and Australia on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Commerce City, Colorado.

Orlando City SC will host Vancouver Whitecaps FC this Saturday, Oct. 11, at Inter&Co Stadium in the club’s final home match of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Tickets are available here.
