Orlando City Falls to FC Dallas

Fc Dallas Recap

FRISCO, Texas (July 4, 2016) – Orlando City SC (4-4-8, 20 points) kicked off a busy month of July with a 4-0 loss to second-place FC Dallas (10-5-4, 34 points) at Toyota Stadium. The Lions play Houston on Friday in Orlando before going on the road for three consecutive matches, finishing the month at home against New England.

“We thought we were going to have to be good to get anything from the game this evening, and we weren’t. They aren’t sitting near the top of the league for nothing. They’ve got really good pace and they’re a really good side,” Lions Head Coach Adrian Heath said. “We’ve got a quick turnaround. We’ve got a really important game at home on Friday.”

Walker Zimmerman, Michael Barrios, Matt Hedges and Fabian Castillo scored for the Toros to snap the Lions’ season-high five-game unbeaten streak. Dallas got on the board early when Zimmerman flicked a corner delivery to the far post. Barrios made it 2-0 ten minutes later when Maximiliano Urruti found him in behind City’s back line.

Goalkeeper Joe Bendik, who entered the match eighth in MLS with 51 saves, made several great stops on the night. His best came in the 59th minute off a point-blank header from Zimmerman. Bendik finished with six saves.

The match saw right back Kevin Alston make his sixth start in his seventh appearance for the Lions since joining the team during the offseason. Júlio Baptista entered the match in the 69th minute in place of 2015 MLS Rookie of the Year Cyle Larin and immediately got the Lions’ attack going. Baptista made a great play to create space for a shot in the 75th minute.

The game was paused in each half for a water break due to the intense Texas heat. Water breaks are observed when the wet bulb globe temperature exceeds 89.6 degrees.

The Lions face a quick turnaround after tonight’s match, as they host the Houston Dynamo at Camping World Stadium on Friday, July 8. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be the teams’ second meeting since the Lions earned their first-ever MLS win against Houston last season after Pedro Ribeiro made a great hustle play to score the game’s only goal.
