Orlando City’s performances have improved since James O’Connor arrived in Orlando as the team’s new head coach one month ago .
One reason is the looks he’s giving each player on the roster. In his seven games as head coach, O'Connor started 21 different players and tested some in different positions.
Mohamed El-Munir is one of those players. The Libyan, who usually plays left back, has started the past two matches further up the pitch.
“For me there’s no big difference in left back or left wing,” El-Munir said. “just in the attack part that you have to attack every time when you play left wing because you’re an attacker.”
El-Munir had solid numbers on his first start in the position. He had 15 successful passes in the offensive half, one shot on goal, two shots blocked and an assist (his second of season and his first since March 31). He is one of the players that has been helping the improvement of the team’s offensive production.
El-Munir is happy with his performance and thinks he will continue improving with more games at left wing.
“I’m trying to get used to the position. I don’t want to say I feel confident 100 percent as I play left back because I’ve been playing this position for a while, but I think with a few games I will start to be confident and I can do much more than what I did the last few games,” he said.
El-Munir could get another look at left wing when Orlando City travels to the nation’s capital to take on DC United this Sunday night.
