Kealia Watt, who was signed by the Red Stars before the start of the 2021 season, has made a large impact in her first full regular season with Chicago. Watt is currently tied with Mal Pugh, another marquee newcomer for the Red Stars, with the most goals on the team with four apiece, as well as the team lead in assists with four as well.

Chicago is coming off a 2-1 victory over Kansas City before the international break. The Red Stars profited off an own goal from Kristen Edmonds to open the scoring, but moments later her teammate Hailie Mace was able to level the score 1-1 before halftime. Makenzy Doniak scored the eventual game-winner for the Red Stars, securing the 2-1 victory at home.

The Pride and Red Stars have met twice this season, with each team securing a shutout victory over the other. Orlando traveled to SeatGeek Stadium in August, where the Pride won 2-0.
