ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 6, 2022) - Orlando City SC (8-10-6, 30 points) were defeated by the New England Revolution (7-7-9, 30 points) on Saturday night at Exploria Stadium by a scoreline of 3-0. The Revolution were backed by three different goalscorers, as well a pair of assists from Tommy McNamara.

The match saw winger Iván Angulo make his debut for City after being acquired by the Club on July 25. The 23-year-old is currently on loan from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras of Brazil’s Série A, joining the Lions for a 12-month spell with an option to extend an additional six months.

City returns to action on Saturday, Aug. 13, traveling to take on the New York Red Bulls in a locally televised match on FOX35 PLUS and LionNation TV, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. ET.

Head Coach Oscar Pareja:

“A difficult night for us. There aren’t many words, but to just keep the mentality to walk forward with this group. The disappointment is worse to explain as it was a difficult match. We had our chances as always, we saw that, but we couldn’t finalize, but I think it is much more than that because through the game we lost energy. The second half was painful for us and we couldn’t find a rhythm and we stopped being dangerous as well. What we will do is refresh this group, that is what we are going to do in the next couple days. Try to rest and try to get the energy back. The effort was there, the boys tried. As I said, we couldn’t find that second gear or that second energy and the game just went away.”

Scoring Recap:

20’ Matt Polster (Tommy McNamara) - NE 1, ORL 0
The Revolution opened the scoring in the first half with Tommy McNamara able to find a running Matt Polster into the center of the area, who was able to slot his shot inside the left post for the finish.

51’ Wilfrid Kaptoum (Tommy McNamara) - NE 2, ORL 0
New England doubled its advantage, this time with McNamara jumping on a clearance from the Lions’ defense on the right flank, sending a ball into the box that found the foot of Wilfrid Kaptoum for the score.

75’ Henry Kessler (Carles Gil) - NE 3, ORL 0
The Revs added another off the set piece, with Carles Gil whipping in a corner from the left side, finding the head of Henry Kessler in the area to put the lead to three.
