It was announced on Tuesday that Orlando City has acquired striker Dom Dwyer from Sporting Kansas City. Dwyer has accomplished a lot in his MLS career-- 57 goals in 128 appearances for Sporting Kansas City, 2 goals in his 3 appearances so far with the U.S men’s national team. He was drafted in the 2012 SuperDraft by Sporting Kansas City, but played the 2013 season on loan to Orlando City during the club’s USL days. During that time, Dwyer scored 15 goals in 13 games.

In 2013, Dwyer appeared for Sporting Kansas City in CONCACAF Champions league. That same season, he scored the game-winning goal for Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference Final against the Houston Dynamo. He played 72 minutes of the 2013 MLS Cup, eventually being subbed off. His team won 7-6 in penalty shootouts against Real Salt Lake.

He is a two-time All Star, being voted to the MLS All-Star team this season and in 2014. Ultimately, the U.S won in 2014 against Bayern Munich. We’ll see what Dom is capable of doing at the All-Star game next week.

While his career with the United States is still in it’s early stages, he has already made an impact. He has scored two goals in his first three appearances for the team. He scored his first goal in his first match, a friendly against Ghana. He scored the opening goal for the United States in the Gold Cup against Panama, but left the tournament after the group stage.

Dwyer brings a unique combination to Orlando City. He is both an experienced veteran, and a young talent. At 26-years-old, he already has a whole list of accolades, including two All-Star appearances and an MLS Cup. But he is only now entering the prime of his career. He’ll continue that journey as a Lion-- and maybe he’ll bring another championship down south.
