Facundo Torres did everything he could to earn Orlando City a result on Monday night, coming off the bench to deliver a goal and an assist with the Lions trailing D.C. United 3-0 early in the second half. While the comeback effort came up short in a 5-3 defeat, Torres was voted Heineken Man of the Match by the Orlando City faithful for his valiant effort.
Torres’ goal was brilliantly taken, a sharp strike from outside the box which completely froze D.C. goalkeeper Rafael Romo and got the Lions on the board. Four minutes later, El Cuervo sent in a majestic free kick that found the head of Ercan Kara, with the Austrian putting it in the back of the net to bring the Lions within a goal.
Torres was the lone Lion with multiple goal contributions on the night despite only playing the second half. The Uruguayan also completed 24 of his 25 passes and chipped in a tackle won, a foul won, a dribble and two ball recoveries. Torres won three of his five duels on the night.
