Engelwood Stars

On Saturday, November 23, Orlando City Foundation representatives Kay Rawlins and Rebecca Thomas attended the end of the season graduation games and festival for the children of Engelwood Community Center. Saturday’s festivities were a culmination of continued collaboration between the Orlando City Foundation and Engelwood Community Center’s staff, to create a soccer program for the center. The Foundation contributed funding toward bringing the new program to Engelwood at the beginning of the Fall season.

Saturday’s festivities included the final games of the Fall soccer season at the Center. Each team was awarded a soccer medal with an Orlando City water bottle and sticker. The children showed great interest in the sport along with great attitudes. The day concluded with a BBQ, face painting and bounce house activity.

Orlando City Foundation was happy to be able to continue their support of the Center in their quest of making soccer available to the children of the surrounding area. Engelwood Community Center was given the Foundation’s first micro-grant for their soccer program, which allowed them to begin its first organized soccer program for children 4-6 years old.

Orlando City Foundation representative Rebecca Thomas shared her thoughts on the day, stating, “It was great to be a part of today’s end of the season festival. We were pleased to collaborate with this center and saw that we made a great decision when awarding this micro-grant. Not only were the participants enjoying soccer but the families and siblings watching, you could tell, loved the game as well. The Foundation is glad to be able to continue to grow the sport of soccer in Central Florida.”
