By The Numbers: Coming Down The Stretch

1194 - It’s been a long, long time

Orlando City has won five straight games against Columbus going all the way back to the 2018 season. In fact, when Wednesday’s match kicks off, it’ll have been 1,194 days since the Crew last beat the Lions, and even that was marred by controversy, with Patrick Mullins drawing a phantom penalty late in the game that gave the Crew a chance to win in stoppage time. Most recently, Orlando beat Columbus 3-2 at Exploria Stadium on September 4.

8 - Getting on the scoresheet

Orlando City has scored in eight consecutive matches going back to September 15, their second-longest stretch of the 2021 season. The Lions have been one of the hardest teams to shut out in MLS under Oscar Pareja, scoring at least once in 27 of their 31 MLS regular season matches this season.

84 - Minute man Michel

Benji Michel really likes scoring 84th minute winners against Columbus. He did it on July 13, 2019, helping Orlando City to a 1-0 victory, and then repeated the feat on November 4, 2020, notching the winner even though Orlando City was down to 10 men. Júnior Urso’s game-winning goal against the Crew this year came in the 69th minute, but wildly, Urso scored an 84th minute winner in a different game this season, against Toronto FC on June 19.

6 - Nashville nose-dive?

Nashville SC lost a golden opportunity at three points on September 29, when Orlando City scored twice in the final 15 minutes, including a 93rd-minute equalizer, to snatch a 2-2 draw at Nissan Stadium. That turned out to be the second of five consecutive draws for Nashville, who saw that streak snapped in the worst of ways with a 1-0 defeat to Philadelphia this past weekend. Nashville is on a six match winless run as of this writing; they take on Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
