Audi Sunday Recap | Orlando City Acquires Yoshimar Yotun

Yotun Sunday Recap

Welcome Yoshi

This week Orlando City signed 27-year old Peruvian international Yoshimar Yotun as a Designated Player. Yotun joins City from Malmo FF -- Sweden’s most decorated club -- where he recently helped lead the club to its record 22nd Swedish League title in 2016.

Yotun is known for his tremendous versatility -- his ability to take up different positions on the field and create scoring chances for both himself and his teammates. The dynamic left-footer will bolster an Orlando City squad yearning for its first MLS playoff appearance.

Weekend Triple Header

All three Orlando clubs were in action on Saturday night. Here’s how each team fared:

Orlando City SC traveled north for a visit to Stade Saputo to take on Ignacio Piatti and the Montreal Impact. Cyle Larin gave the Lions a 1-0 lead going into halftime, but that wasn’t enough. The home team rallied back with goals from Piatti and Anthony Jackson-Hamel giving the Impact a 2-1 home win.

The Orlando Pride played a hard fought match against the current NWSL-leading Chicago Red Stars. Alex Morgan scored a well worked first half goal and, after plenty of other scoring opportunities, the Pride looked to be in complete control at the break. However, the Pride’s inability to finish the Red Stars off in the first half came back to haunt them. Sofia Huerta would end up equalizing in the 53rd minute and the game would end at a stalemate, 1-1.

Orlando City B played its third game in eight days against FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium last night. Up 2-1 going into stoppage time, OCB looked to be bringing three points with them back down to Orlando. A 92nd minute volley from Danny Konig stole a point for Cincy at the death and Anthony Pulis’ side had to settle for a draw on the road.
