Timbers Hold Their Own Against League-Leading Rapids

The Portland Timbers continued their strong play of late by holding even with the best-in-the-league Colorado Rapids, accumulating 12 points over the last six matches to propel themselves to just outside of the playoffs. The Rapids dominated the match statistically, but the Timbers made all the right moves at the right moments as they look to defend their 2015 MLS Cup victory. Portland had chances of their own to come away with the win, but keeper Tim Howard, in his debut match with the Rapids, made two outstanding saves to preserve the draw.

Kei Kamara’s Two Goals for New England Not Enough Against Impact

After being trading from Columbus Crew in mid-May, Kei Kamara netted his first two goals in the red, white, and blue. But his outburst wasn’t enough for the Revolution as the Montréal Impact reeled off three unanswered goals to win 3-2 on Saturday. Montéal’s Michael Salazar responded to both of Kamara’s goals with scores of his own, and Ignacio Piatti scored his tenth goal on the season with a game-winning PK.

NYCFC Gets Their Revenge on Red Bulls with First Ever Win in Rivalry

On May 21, the New York Red Bulls embarrassed New York City FC in their own stadium by a final score of 7-0. On Sunday, NYCFC got their revenge on their cross-town rivals. While the scoreline was a more modest 2-0, NYC used to win to propel themselves to the top of the Eastern Conference table. Rookie Jack Harrison and veteran superstar David Villa both scored to give their side their third victory in a row in league play.

Another Kamara Scores Twice in Defeat as Columbus Falls to SKC

Ola Kamara, of no relation to Kei Kamara, also netted two goals for his side this past weekend as Columbus Crew took on Sporting Kansas City. But like the player with whom he shares a name, Kamara’s scoring spree wasn’t enough as Sporting downed the Crew with an identical scoreline of 3-2. The win for Kansas City put them in playoff positioning while the loss for Columbus left them reeling near the bottom of the Eastern Conference table.
