Monica and Camila Head To Brazil Women’s National Team Camp

Monica Camila

Orlando Pride players Monica and Camila have been called in to the Brazilian Women’s National Team camp. Monica has 40 caps with the national team, having appeared for them in both the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Camila appeared for Brazil’s U-20 team in the 2014 U-20 World Cup.

Monica proved to be a huge asset to the Brazilian national team in last year’s Olympics, playing nearly every minute of the tournament, in which Brazil finished in third place. She was also a member of the team when they won the 2014 Copa America Femenina.

Camila is less well-known on the Brazilian squad. She appeared for the U-20 team in their run during the 2014 U-20 World Cup, but the team exited the tournament after the group stage. Camila has performed well during the Orlando Pride preseason, scoring a goal in the team’s first match, a 9-0 win over Stetson.

Monica is a versatile player, who can play as both a defender and a defensive midfielder. Camila can also play multiple positions, appearing sometimes as a defender and sometimes on the wings. While Monica is a national team veteran, at just 22-years-old, Camila has yet to reach her full potential. The national team call-up gives her another opportunity to prove herself during an impressive Orlando Pride preseason.
The Brazilian National Team will be facing Bolivia in a friendly on April 9th in Manaus. With no major tournament this year, except for the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro in the Netherlands, many teams are hosting friendlies to continue to maintain fitness and develop young talent. This is the same reason that the U.S Women’s National Team will be hosting Russia in two upcoming friendlies. Orlando Pride Goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, Forward Alex Morgan, and Defender Ali Krieger have all received call-ups.
