Orlando City SC Announces Roster Moves Ahead of Season Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 3, 2017) - Ahead of its third Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Orlando City SC signs midfielder Danny Deakin and acquires striker Moussa Sane on loan, pending receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa. The Club has also waived defender David Mateos.


“We’re excited to boost our squad with Danny and Moussa," Lions General Manager Niki Budalic said. "Moussa is a young player with a lot of potential that can play as a striker or attacking midfielder, and Danny has impressed us since his arrival and we look forward to seeing how he progresses with the team."


Deakin, 23, was selected in the third round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. The Sheffield, England, native most recently played with Detroit City FC in the National Premier Soccer League after spending two years at the University of South Carolina.


Sane, 20, joins the Lions on loan from AS Dakar Sacré Sœur of the Senegalese first division. Sane is a former member of the Senegal U-17 and U-19 national team player pool and a product of the Galaxy United FC Academy, which is directed by former Liverpool and Stoke City midfielder Salif Diao.


Mateos, 29, was originally signed in July 2015 from Hungarian side Ferencvárosi TC. The Madrid, Spain, native made 26 starts among 29 appearances for the Lions and earned one assist.


TRANSACTION: Orlando City SC signs Danny Deakin and acquires striker Moussa Sane on loan. Additionally, Orlando City SC waives David Mateos.
