Brek Shea Undergoes Successful Surgery to repair Sports Hernia

Brek Injury

ORLANDO – July 16, 2015 – Orlando City SC midfielder has undergone successful surgery to repair a sports hernia earlier this week and is expected to return this season.

“As the official medical provider for Orlando City SC, we’re very pleased to confirm Brek’s surgery was a success,” says Daryl Osbahr, MD, team physician for Orlando City SC and chief of sports medicine for Orlando Health. “We look forward to helping Brek rehabilitate, and like all Orlando City fans, see him return to the pitch at full strength and in full health soon.”

Shea has been playing with a nagging injury for some time. He left in the 40th minute of Orlando City match against the Colorado Rapids on June 24th.  He has played in 14 games for the Lions in 2015, logging nearly 1,300 minutes as both a left defender early in the season and in the midfield most recently.

Orlando will return to league play on Saturday, July 18, for an Eastern Conference matchup against the New York Red Bulls. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at the Orlando Citrus Bowl.
