ORLANDO, Fla. --Â Orlando City SC selected defender Abdi Salim (Syracuse University) with the No. 17 overall pick in the first round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft on Wednesday.
Salim, the club's third first-round selection in this year's draft behind midfielder Shakur Mohammed (Duke University/Generation adidas) and forward Duncan McGuire (Creighton University), made 22 appearances for the Orange in 2022 as part of a backline that recorded 11 clean sheets on its way to the program’s first NCAA national championship.
