Kaká Given Special Recognition at Orlando City Gala

Kaka Award

When it comes to the international, domestic and overall success of Orlando City SC in their inaugural season in Major League Soccer (MLS), there is one name that always comes to mind — Kaká.

When the global superstar signed with Orlando City in 2014 you could instantly see the impact he would have both on and off the pitch. Media attention soared around the world, season tickets quickly sold out, the Orlando Citrus Bowl was packed to capacity for his debut, and his performance on the field produced historic and magical moments for fans.

In fact, Kaká made such a massive impact on MLS that he was not only voted to the MLS All-Star team, but was selected by the fans to Captain the team. As Captain, Kaká was the object of media attention throughout the days leading up to the event, promoting the league in multiple languages with ease and charm.  On the field, he led the MLS All-Stars to a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, registering a goal and an assist, and securing MVP honors for the match.

When Orlando City gathered on Sunday night for their annual Awards Gala, CEO Alex Leitão took the stage to honor the Club’s captain for all his contributions in this inaugural season. Kakà was presented with the International Awareness Award for his significant role in raising the profile of Orlando City on the global stage. His impact will continue to be felt by fans, teammates, residents and all those who follow Orlando City. The recognition was a small token of appreciation and a sign of what’s yet to come from the Lions’ leader.
