It was a second-consecutive stellar performance from Orlando City captain Nani on Saturday night, as the Portuguese was once again named Heinekan Man of the Match, scoring a worldie and menacing the FC Cincinnati backline for 90 minutes in a comprehensive 3-0 victory for the Lions.
Nani’s goal in the 19th minute was a sight to behold:
The goal was Nani’s 20th in MLS regular-season play and 23rd in all competitions for Orlando City since signing with the Club in February of 2019. Nani was nominated for MLS’ AT&T Goal of the Week for the second week in a row, after his cheeky backheel against Sporting Kansas City on April 23.
Beyond the goal, it was another exceptional night for Nani. The captain was inches from a hat trick, striking the post with a header in the 23rd minute and seeing a second potential golazo saved by Cincinnati goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton in the 62nd. Nani took six shots total, with three others blocked.
Nani also made plays for his teammates, connecting on two key passes and leading the side with 37 passes in the opposing half, on which he hit 75.7% of the time. Nani attempted five open-play crosses and completed three of them, a high conversion rate, and won seven of his 11 total duels. He was even active defensively, tying for second on the team with six ball recoveries.
