Orlando Pride Head Coach Seb Hines
On the result
“ Disappointed with the result, obviously. I felt the quick turnaround highs of last Friday beating Kansas [City Current] and then could we take that momentum into this game? There wasn't a lot of it in the first half, they took their chances really well, and I thought towards the end of the game we were really trying. We were pushing, the ball wouldn't land for us, and it's fine margins in this league. You've got to take your opportunities when they present themselves, and you can't give the opposition even a sniff. Overall disappointment with the result, never fault the effort of the players they always give 110 percent but tonight just wasn't our night.”
On first-half performance
“Yeah, they took their goal well, had some quick combination play. I feel like every goal is preventable, that's just my mindset, how I think. There were a couple of give-and-goes and getting close to people and affecting people, it wasn’t quite there in the first half. Structurally I thought we were alright at times and we've got to value the ball, we can't give other teams the opportunity to transition, we have to look after the ball. We've got to create those little triangles, switch the point of attack and I felt we did that at times, probably not enough. And then I felt, even when we were bringing the ball forward into the attacking third, just that last bit of quality to really score the goal and give us that springboard into the rest of the game. Instead of us now chasing until the 95th minute, you know, that gives us the platform to then push on for more goals. And as they commit more numbers forward then we can be more threatening in transition. But again, it just didn't work out the way that we had planned.”
On Barbra Banda’s contributions
“It's obviously challenging, especially when she had quite a significant injury leading up into the last couple of games. I feel like we have managed her really well, but you have to be cautious with players, especially when they have injuries the way that Barbra [Banda] had, and she's such an explosive player you don't want to lose for many more games. So, we have to be very cognizant of that and manage the best way we can. And obviously it was a quick turnaround from Friday to Wednesday, and then we've got obviously another quick turnaround going on the road to Utah. So yes, we will assess where she's at, how she feels after tonight's game and then make a decision on, you know, if she starts or she can be an impact off the bench again.”
Orlando Pride Forward Julie Doyle
On the result
“I'm pretty disappointed with the result. I feel like the effort was there as always but the goal is always to get three points, but we can't dwell on this result and we have to move on to the next game.”
On making her 100th career appearance with the Pride
“I just want to say how grateful I am, not every single player gets to hit 100 and hit 100 at the same team. So I'm so grateful for the staff and the organization for believing in me every single year and every single contract. We have had some highs and lows but winning a national championship was the best soccer memory that no one can take away. I'm just really happy to be here.”
On subbing on at a different position
“Wherever the team needs me, I'm going to give my best effort. I also have some experience playing outside back with the national team growing up. Also, just the way that we play pretty aggressively with our outside backs, it's more like a winger. I feel comfortable with the team and the coaches obviously believe in me there, so I just give it my best go and that's what I did tonight.”
