ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2023) — Orlando Pride midfielder Viviana Villacorta has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 NWSL season and placed on the Season-Ending Injury list following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in her left knee, sustained during training this week. Villacorta will undergo surgery to repair the injury, set to be performed by Orlando Health’s Dr. Craig Mintzer, chief medical officer and head orthopedic surgeon for the Pride.

“The entire Club is absolutely devastated for Viv,” said Orlando Pride VP of Soccer Operations and General Manager, Haley Carter. “She is such an impactful part of our team, on the field and off, and we will fully support her with the Club’s resources as she works through her recovery. We have every confidence that our world-class medical team and partners at Orlando Health will care for Viv and facilitate her successful return to the pitch.”

Villacorta, the No. 9 overall selection in the 2021 NWSL Draft, has made 21 appearances for the Pride across all competitions this year, tallying her first career assist on April 29 at San Diego. The UCLA product missed the 2021 season due to an ACL injury in her right knee, ultimately making her professional debut on May 1, 2022.
