PORTLAND, Ore. (Aug. 15, 2026) – Orlando Pride (7-11-2, 23 points) fell 2-1 to the Portland Thorns (10-6-4, 34 points) on Saturday night at Providence Park.
The home side opened the scoring in the second half with a strike from distance from Deyna Castellanos to take the lead. The Pride responded quickly when Julie Doyle found Oihane along the right wing. Oihane battled and managed to get a cross in that was punched by the Portland goalkeeper and went off Jacquie Ovalle, who managed to reroute the ball into the back of the net. The goal is her second of the season and her fifth goal contribution this season, which is second most on the team.
Just as it seemed both sides would split the points, Caiya Hanks found a game-winner for Portland in second-half stoppage time.

“I thought we were terrific in the first half. I thought we came to Providence Park with loads of intent. We didn’t create any clear-cut opportunities, but we had a lot of good momentum. The first-half was terrific, and we have to give the players the compliments because they were aggressive, they put them under immense pressure. Second half was more balanced. Obviously, they created some chances, and we are disappointed with the first goal, can we get a little more pressure, but it is a great strike from that distance. Then we get ourselves back in the game and stuff happens, it is just not going our way. Everyone is absolutely devastated. We put a lot of hard work into today’s performance and you hate to lose in that manner. You hate to lose, but to lose in that manner is devastating.”

- Jacquie Ovalle scored her second goal of the NWSL regular season. She now has five goal contributions on the season, which ranks second on the team.
- Ovalle’s goal is the first goal the Pride have scored at Providence Park since 2021.
- Gabi Nunes made her Pride debut coming on as a second-half substitute.
- Head Coach Seb Hines made four changes to the starting lineup since the Club’s last match against Racing Louisville, with Oihane, Hayley McCutcheon, Barbra Banda and Solai Washington entering the starting XI.
- Kylie Nadaner (maternity leave), Viviana Villacorta (knee), Hannah Anderson (lower leg), Kerry Abello (Thigh) and Marta (head) missed the match due to injury.
