Know Your Opponent: Seattle Reign

know your opponent: Seattle reign

After earning their first win against the top-ranked North Carolina Courage, the Orlando Pride will go back on the road and travel to Seattle to face off against the Reign. Currently ranked second in the league, the Reign have earned a couple of massive wins this season-- scoring five goals or more in two matches. Here is a breakdown of the Seattle Reign:

Recent Matches

The Seattle Reign routed the Washington Spirit 6-2 in their match over the past weekend. In their first five matches of the season they are 2-1-2, but those two victories have been massive. Their only loss came against the formidable Boston Breakers; the Reign dropped the match 3-0 on the road.

Whoā€™s Hot

The Seattle Reign have arguably one of the strongest offenses in the league. Megan Rapinoe leads the NWSL in goals this season with four goals and one assist in five matches. Nahomi Kawasumi leads the league in assists, with four assists and one goal so far this year. Those four assists all came in the Reignā€™s match against the Spirit, breaking a league record for the most assists in a single game.

Whoā€™s Not

The Seattle Reign have yet to earn a shutout this year. Admittedly, in the matches against Houston and Washington, where the Reign scored five or more goals, the one or two that Seattle allowed were inconsequential. But this is a vulnerable defense.

Power Rankings

The Seattle Reign shot up to the #1 slot in the NWSL Power Rankings this week, while the Orlando Pride moved up to the #7 spot. That may seem daunting, but last week the Pride were ranked at the bottom of the league and took down the #1 team. The battle could be worse.

Head-To-Head

The Pride were 1-1 against the Reign last season, earning one win at home and one loss on the road. This will be the Prideā€™s first match against the Reign this season.
