National Teams Action

Over the next week, both U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams will prepare for international friendlies. The Men will travel to Lisbon to take on the Portugal National Team, while the Women will play a two-game series against Canada.

For the Women, their first game will be on Thursday, November 9 in Vancouver, as the teams will face off at BC Place, the site of the U.S.’s 2015 World Cup victory. With this being a friendly, Head Coach Jill Ellis opted to give one player their first international call-up, Orlando Pride forward Chioma Ubogagu.

The forward, who scored four goals and added three assists in her first year with Orlando, was called up as a defender, a position she played twice in 2017. She will join her Pride teammates Alex Morgan and Ashlyn Harris on the roster as they play on Thursday and on Sunday, November 12. The weekend match will be played at San Jose’s Avaya Stadium, which is just 20 minutes away from where Ubogagu went to college at Stanford University.

The Men, meanwhile, will take on Portugal on Tuesday, November 14 with numerous new faces making the trip. Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Josh Sargent, all under the age of 20, have gotten their first call-up, while Jesse Gonzalez and Cameron Carter Vickers look to get their first cap with the team.

For Orlando, forward Dom Dwyer received his second U.S. call-up after scoring twice in three games with the team in the Gold Cup this summer. The Lions forward finished the season with four goals and a career-high four assists in 12 games with Orlando, setting himself up for another successful stint with the national team.

Also getting the call is one time USL loanee C.J. Sapong, who spent four games with the Lions back in 2013, scoring a goal.

The men’s game can be seen on Fox Sports 1 at 3:45 p.m. on the 14th, while the women’s games can be seen on ESPN2 at 7:00 for the game on the 8th, and Fox Sports 1 at 6:00 for the game on the 12th.
