Know Your Opponent: D.C United

KTO DC United

Orlando City will host their first home midweek matchup on Wednesday when they face off against D.C United. An Eastern Conference rival, D.C United has been somewhat inconsistent at the start of their season. Here is a breakdown of Orlando City’s next opponent:

Recent Matches

They won their match over the weekend 1-0 against the Vancouver Whitecaps. That was a much needed victory for the D.C side, having lost their previous three matches. Overall, they’re 2-3-0 in their last five and 4-6-2 on the season. They have earned just two wins on the road.

Who’s Hot

Although they have a trouble finding victories, D.C United’s defense has managed to keep matches tight. With a couple of exceptions, D.C United’s opponents have only managed to find maybe one or two goals. That’s thanks in part to Bill Hamid, who has been spoken about as one of the better keepers in the league this year. Still, D.C only has two shutouts on the year.

Who’s Not

D.C United’s offense has struggled in the past few weeks. While Lamar Neagle did score a PK over the weekend against Vancouver, D.C’s offense was shut down in the three matches prior. They have struggled to generate much on offense this year, but they’ll be looking for answers as they start a long stretch of road matches.

Head-to-Head

Orlando City has two matches against D.C United last year, both with high goal tallies. They lost to D.C United early on in the season 4-1, but came back and earned a 4-2 victory at the end of the year. In their first season, they played three times, with Orlando losing twice and a winning once. Overall, Orlando City’s record against D.C United is 2-3-0.
