Dwyer Adds Fuel To Orlando City Playoff Push

Dwyer playoffs

It has been a whirlwind week for striker Dom Dwyer. On Tuesday, the club announced the acquisition of Dwyer from Sporting Kansas City and he landed at Orlando International Airport that night. On Wednesday, he gave his first press conference and he spoke to the media about his intentions with this club.

He made his goals very clear: he wants to bring a championship to Orlando.

“I’m here to win,” Dwyer said on Wednesday during in an interview on SiriusXM. “I’m not here to just come and play. I want to win a championship. That’s why I’m here.”

There has been a lot of excitement and energy surrounding Dwyer’s arrival. There are expectations-- from the club, from the supporters’-- that Dwyer will help the team reach that ultimate goal of winning an MLS Cup. For Dwyer, the pressure serves as motivation.

“The expectations are high. My own expectations are high,” Dwyer said on SiriusXM. “I’m going to come in and put the work in, and hopefully you guys will see the results.”

Dwyer believes that his side has what it takes to make the playoffs. Right now, Orlando City sits just below the Eastern Conference playoff line. But points are tight in the East, and the battle is far from over.

“That’s absolutely the goal for this side. No doubt in my mind that this team has enough talent to do it as long as we can collectively perform well and be a solid group,” Dwyer said. “I haven’t met all the guys yet, but I’ve heard there is a great team togetherness. It’s a special group of players. And with that always comes good team chemistry. I’m excited to be here, I want to improve the group, I believe that I can help. I’m excited to play with a lot of guys on this squad. I’m ready to get going.”
