Grand Final W league

This week, four teams-- Canberra United, Perth Glory, Sydney FC, and Melbourne City FC-- competed to find out who would be traveling to the Westfield W-League Grand Final. It was an exciting weekend of playoff action, and for two teams, their dreams of lifting a championship trophy will continue.

Perth Glory vs. Sydney FC

Perth Glory vs. Sydney FC marked the first match-up of the weekend. Sydney FC, featuring Orlando Pride Defender Alanna Kennedy, slumped in their last week before the playoffs, falling from first on the table. Perth Glory ended up winning the playoff match 5-1, with the lone goal from Sydney FC coming from Kyah Simon in the 23rd minute. Overall, Sydney FC were able to take shots, but were unable to finish their attacking moments. The devastating loss marks the end of Sydney FC’s season.

Canberra United vs. Melbourne City FC

This second playoff matchup found Orlando Pride players Lisa de Vanna and Jasmyne Spencer of Canberra United pitted against their Orlando teammates Steph Catley and Laura Alleway of Melbourne City FC. Canberra United finished the regular season in first place, but Melbourne City had picked up some momentum towards the end of the year. The match proved extremely competitive, with the scoreline even at the end of 90 minutes. Overall, Canberra United had more shots and more accuracy, but it was Jessica Fishlock of Melbourne City that found the lone goal of the match in the 107th minute, giving Melbourne City a victory.

Melbourne City FC will face off against Perth Glory for the W-League Grand Final on Sunday, February 12th at 4:30pm local time. Perth Glory is one of the W-League teams that doesn’t feature any Orlando Pride players. Melbourne City FC, on the other hand, features Orlando Pride Defenders Steph Catley and Laura Alleway. We know who we’ll be cheering for!
