Expansion Bids


A total of 12 ownership groups from 12 cities placed bids before Tuesdayā€™s deadline to join MLS. MLS wants to add four more teams in the coming years, bringing the total number of teams to 28. Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, San Antonio, Phoenix, Sacramento, and San Diego were the cities that placed their bids. The strong reaction from cities across the country shows the strength of the MLS and the significant growth of the league in the last decade.


Lampard Announces Retirement


This week, former New York City FC Midfielder Frank Lampard announced his retirement. Lampard played for 21 years, most notably with Chelsea, as well as Manchester City, West Ham United, and Swansea City before finishing off his career with two seasons at New York City FC. Lampard won UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, three Premier League titles, and four FA Cups. He earned over 100 caps for England internationally. Lampard is expected to venture into coaching following his retirement.
