Orlando City Faces New Look Seattle Sounders

On Sunday night, Orlando City will return to Camping World Stadium to take on the Seattle Sounders. Orlando City will be looking to build off of their success from this past weekend, but despite their recent turmoil, the Sounders will not be an easy opponent.

The Sounders find themselves in a very similar position to where Orlando City was last month. Seattle recently parted ways with longtime head coach Sigi Schmid, leaving assistant coach Brian Schmetzer to step in as interim head coach. After three losses in a row and a disappointing 1-1 draw against LA Galaxy on Sunday, the Sounders will be desperate for points in Orlando.

Orlando City will have to work hard to make sure they continue to bring that drive and passion to the pitch on Sunday night. But they will also have to prove their versatility, as they prepare to take on a head coach that is fairly unknown to the MLS.

While Schmetzer did coach last week’s draw against LA Galaxy, this week he will have had more time to prepare and develop his own style. Add in the recent arrival of designated player Nico Lodeiro and the return of former Sounder Alvaro Fernandez, and Orlando City could be looking at a very challenging test.

However, this week will also give Orlando City Head Coach Jason Kreis another week to prepare with his team. They managed to find success on the pitch Sunday night, and are hoping to do it again this week. “Most important is for us to build from here,” Kevin Molino said after Sunday’s match. “To keep the mindset, the mentality, and to move forward together collectively.”

Orlando City will take on the Seattle Sounders at Camping World Stadium on Sunday, August 7th at 7:00pm.
