U-20 USMNT Head Coach Tab Ramos Names Tommy Redding to 22-Player Roster for 2016 Dallas Cup

Redding Call Up

ORLANDO, Fla. – March 15, 2016 – Orlando City SC defender Tommy Redding has been named to the 22-player roster for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team for the upcoming 2016 Dallas Cup, set to take place March 20-26, under Head Coach Tab Ramos’ direction.

In only his second year in Major League Soccer, the Oviedo-native and Orlando City Academy product has started four games in North America’s top division, including the Lions’ 2016 opening match, displaying his defensive solidity in front of more than 60,000 fans at the Orlando Citrus Bowl.

Redding made two league appearances in 2015 for City. On Aug. 8, he became the youngest player to feature in a MLS match for the Lions when he entered the game in the 14th minute and helped secure a clean sheet against the Philadelphia Union at home. On Oct. 3, he made his first MLS start when facing the Montreal Impact. Redding has started and played all 90 minutes of City’s first two 2016 matches.

The roster is entirely made up of players who have been through U.S. Soccer’s Youth National Team program. The squad possesses a broad mixture of experience with 11 players currently at the collegiate level, four signed with MLS clubs, three playing with Development Academy teams and four playing professionally with club teams abroad.

This will be the first tournament of 2016 for the U-20s after holding a January training camp in Miami, Florida, where they won two matches against local club teams.

The Dallas Cup is the first step in the process of forming the roster for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Men’s Championship from which four teams will earn a berth to the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.

The USA will play in the Gordon Jago Super Group as it did in 2014 when the team achieved its best tournament finish by advancing to the championship match, where it lost against the U-20 side of traditional Argentina power club, Rive Plate.
