Orlando City to Face Brazilian Série A Flamengo at Historic Maracanã Stadium on November 15

ORLANDO, Fla. – Oct. 26, 2015 – Coming off the Lions’ historic inaugural season in Major League Soccer (MLS), Orlando City Soccer Club today announced the team will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to take on one of the most celebrated and successful clubs in the Brazilian Série A, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo on Nov. 15.  

This historic match will mark Flamengo’s 120th anniversary, with special celebrations planned for the opening ceremony. In addition, the match will take place in the most iconic soccer stadium in Brazil, Maracanã – the site of FIFA World Cup Finals including the 2014 finale as well as where the sport’s most iconic player Pelé scored his 1,000th career goal.

“Orlando City will take on one of the most storied Clubs in the world, in one of the most prestigious temples of soccer in the world,” said CEO Alex Leitão. “Orlando City is the most popular MLS team in Brazil, and this will be an unforgettable match for supporters to watch.  This is also an excellent opportunity to further grow the popularity of our brand overseas, as so many Brazilians travel to Orlando each and every year.”

The Lions will travel to Rio on Nov. 12 and will train prior to the match.
