OC Staff Teams up With Seminole County Families in Transition

Families in Transition 11/15

On a beautiful Saturday November 15th morning, City staff travelled to Winter Springs High School where they helped celebrate the 9th annual installment of Families in Transition’s Day of Magical Connections.

The Families in Transition Program was established in April 2003 through grant funding from the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act to serve the educational needs of children in the Seminole County School System who are considered homeless. Families in Transition is serving those students who, by definition, "lack a fixed, regular and adequate residence; or have a primary nighttime residence that is temporary in nature; or is a place not designed or used ordinarily as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings."

The day was a huge success for all involved, as close to 200 participants showcased their skills for the OC staff. On the field were 4 different soccer ‘zones’, where each zone had the kids learning and practicing a variety of skills and games. From dribbling to shooting, even heading toward goal, the kids loved the opportunity to get outside and showcase their skills.
