Pinwheel Garden to Support Child Abuse Awareness Month

Pinwheel Garden

On April 1, 2014, Orlando City Soccer Club (Orlando City SC) collaborated with the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families in its “Paint Orlando Blue” initiative in support of April’s National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Orlando City SC planted a beautiful blue pinwheel garden outside of its home office in Winter Park in the hopes of raising awareness for child abuse prevention.

“Our main focus is promoting a holistic healthy lifestyle for the children in our community,” said Orlando City Director of Community Relations and Leadership Council Board Member for Howard Phillips Center Kay Rawlins. “Creating awareness and raising funds to help prevent child abuse is something that the entire city of Orlando should be involved in.”

As one of Orlando City’s chosen non-profit organizations, the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families provides vital services and resources for children who suffer from child abuse, childhood developmental delays and disabilities, the uncertainties of becoming a new parent, and lack of access to medical care for low-income teens. Through monetary donations and utilizing the power of sport, Orlando City SC is able to help raise awareness in the local community about the importance of taking an active role in preventing child abuse.
