OCF Donates Equipment to Jamaica

Last week, Orlando City Foundation donated over 100 gently used Orlando City SC shirts and shorts to the Golden Youth Police Youth Club in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Orlando City Foundation also contributed numerous soccer balls, rain jackets, gently used jerseys and socks, and other Orlando City Soccer Club gear, ultimately aiding the teens as they prepare for competitive soccer practices and games.

“Orlando City Soccer Club does not know how much they have blessed the lives of the inner city youth,” said Fabian McKnight Golden Youth Police Youth Club Director. “Through Orlando City Soccer Club’s generous donation of equipment, they have definitely created waves in the lives of the inner city youth.”

Last year, Orlando City Foundation made similar contributions to the Golden Youth Police Youth Club, in which two Orlando City Foundation representatives attended and participated in soccer coaching sessions and other outreach activities. The event was a success, with over 200 gently used Orlando City Soccer Club shirts and shorts being donated to the youth club’s children, who are now able to use equipment to help them engage in competitive soccer.

“To be able to contribute needed equipment to a community in another part of the world is a truly moving experience, let alone witnessing this encounter from a firsthand perspective,” said Orlando City Foundation Executive Assistant Rebecca Thomas. “We were amazed with how many children in Spanish Town were playing soccer without socks or shoes, and so we knew we needed to help. Again, it was truly a heartwarming experience being able to help the children in Spanish Town, Jamaica.”

The Orlando City Foundation will continue to donate to this specific area in the hopes of creating a thriving soccer community amongst the children of Spanish Town, Jamaica.
