Thursday, May 30th Jean Alexandre accompanied Dennis Chin to the New Image Youth Center, Chin’s Player Cause for 2013. The kids at the center were beyond excited to have the OC players out again. Upon arrival, Chin and Alexandre immediately jumped into the games looking very much at home.
Both Dennis and Jean were full of laughs and smiles as they participated in musical chairs, heads up 7 up, video games as well as a modified version of telephone.
Chin proved to be not only quick on the pitch but also in a few speed rounds of musical chairs; Making it to the final only to fall short to a dancing fourth grader- Christopher. Afterward the two were in friendly competition exchanging dance moves and ideas. Perhaps a new goal celebration was developed?
Due to rain, Jean ended the event with a small pickup game in the study area of the center. Alexandre and roughly eight children pushed back and picked up desks and chairs to clear out a space to play a modified version of “Monkey in the Middle” with the soccer ball. The children loved getting the chance to steal the ball from Alexandre. Jean was able to make a connection with several of the students at the center whom came from Haitian backgrounds like him, speaking creole to one another.
Overall the trip was a delight for all involved. Community Relations Director Kay Rawlins and Foundation Board member Naome Bradshaw brought in supplies, books and a bike that had all been collected and donated to Chin’s Player Cause.
