Orlando City Soccer creates Pinwheel Garden for Child Abuse Prevention

OCF Pinwheel Garden

Staff from both Orlando City Soccer Club (OCSC) and Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families took part in planting a most unusual garden outside the OCSC Winter Park office Friday, March 29 – pinwheels!

April is Child Abuse Awareness month and the pinwheel gardens are a way to create awareness and help motivate people to take an active role in prevention in their community. The Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families is a part of Arnold Palmer Hospital and, through six core programs, provides vital services to those impacted by child abuse and neglect, childhood developmental delays and disabilities, the uncertainties of becoming a new parent, and lack of access to medical care for low-income teens.

Kay Rawlins, Director of Community Relations for OCSC, is on the Leadership Council for the Center and arranged for the pinwheel garden to be planted. In addition, the 2013 USL PRO season opener on April 14th at Fifth Third Bank at the Florida Citrus Bowl will see more pinwheels as the player escorts will carry them onto the field before the start of play. There will be additional pinwheels available for a $1 donation at the game, so be on the lookout when you arrive to the match.
