ORLANDO, Fla. (March 10, 2024) — The Orlando Pride announced today that forward Simone Charley will miss the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League season after rupturing the Achilles tendon injury in her right ankle this week in training. Charley will undergo surgery next week, set to be performed at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, the Club’s official medical partner.

“We are beyond devastated for Simone and that she is facing this challenge for the second season in a row. We have seen how hard she was working to get on the pitch and make an impact with us here in Orlando, so it is incredibly unfair that this has happened to her again,” said Orlando Pride VP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Haley Carter. “Simone knows she has the complete support of everyone here at the Club – from the staff to her teammates – and the best possible care through our medical team and partners at Orlando Health, and we will do all we can to get her back on the field.”

Charley joined the Pride ahead of the 2024 season via free agency after spending the previous two seasons with Angel City FC. A product of Vanderbilt University, Charley missed the 2023 season after sustaining the same injury in her left foot last April.
