For the first time in their history, the Seattle Sounders are going to MLS Cup.
Jordan Morris sealed the Western Conference title for Seattle with his goal in the second half of Sunday’s second leg against Colorado – at altitude, and battling the flu.
After winning MLS Rookie of the Year, Morris put in a legendary Michael Jordan-like performance to lift Seattle into the Final. The Rapids had been peppering the Sounders with shots and a single goal would’ve put them ahead on aggregate. But Nicolás Lodeiro found Morris in alone to give Seattle the all-important road goal and Colorado its first home loss in 2016.
Pretty impressive considering the mid-season coaching change while Seattle was all but eliminated from contention.
So Seattle is in. But against who?
Montreal won the Leg 1 of the Eastern final against Toronto, but the Reds picked up two away goals. With proper field dimensions sure to be in place at BMO Field, here’s a helpful chart to know who advances with what score. The two teams will square off on Wednesday at 7:00pm ET on FS1.
If Montreal advances, they’ll visit Seattle for the MLS Cup Final on Dec. 10. If Toronto advances, they’ll host the Sounders.
Three teams remain. None have won MLS Cup before.
In 12 days, a new champion will be crowned.
