MLS Playoff Recap: Sounders, Impact Come Out Winners In Round One

MLS Playoffs Impact Sounders

On Tuesday, the MLS Conference Finals kicked off with the Montreal Impact hosting Toronto FC and the Seattle Sounders hosting the Colorado Rapids. It was an exciting night which led to victory for both home teams. Here is how the games played out:

Montreal Impact vs. Toronto FC

The Montreal Impact hosted Toronto FC for the first leg of the Eastern Conference Finals Tuesday night at 8:00pm. The match got off to a bit of delayed start after an issue with the measurements for the 18-yard box, but once it kicked off, the action started quickly. The sold out crowd in Montreal was quickly pleased with two goals from Montreal, the first coming in the 10th minute by Dominic Odure and the second in the 12th minute by Matteo Mancosu. They went up 3-0 at the start of the second half off a goal by Oyongo, but Toronto tightened up the score, finding two important away goals from the feet of Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley in the 68th and 73rd minutes respectively. Montreal walked away victorious, but Toronto’s path to the MLS Cup is still clear. Toronto will host Montreal for the second leg of the Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:00pm on FS1.

Seattle Sounders vs. Colorado Rapids

Over on the West Coast, it was the Seattle Sounders hosting the Colorado Rapids for the first match in the Western Conference Finals. The Rapids were without starting goalkeeper Tim Howard, who was injured while playing for the U.S Men’s National Team in their match against Mexico, but backup keeper Zac MacMath quickly proved himself with a couple of important saves. It was Colorado who found the first goal from Kevin Doyle in the 13th minute, but Seattle didn’t let that slow them down. They quickly rebounded, evening out the scoreline in the 19th minute with a strike from Jordan Morris. They would remain scoreless until the 61st minute, when Seattle drew a penalty kick after Nicolas Lodeiro got clipped from behind by Mark Burch inside the box. Lodeiro found the back of the net, giving Seattle the 2-1 lead that would take them to the final whistle. The Rapids will host the Sounders for the second leg of the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, November 27th at 4:00pm on ESPN.
