U.S Women’s National Team Wraps Up 2016 With A Bang

USWNT Wrap Up

The U.S Women’s National Team finished off their year on a high note, beating Romania 5-0 in a friendly in Los Angeles, California. They played at the StubHub Center, in front of a crowd of over 20,000. The win over Romania caps off an undefeated year for the U.S Women’s National Team, their first since 2013. For those of you wondering, the match against Sweden in the Rio Olympics officially counts as a tie.

Christen Press had another terrific night, earning one assist (to Crystal Dunn) in the first half and a goal in the second half. Samantha Mewis found her fourth goal of the year, while Morgan Brian found her second (with her first goal of the year being in the match on Thursday). The game featured some new talent in the starting lineup, including Casey Short, Andi Sullivan, Lynn Williams and Kealia Ohai. Kristen Edmonds did not feature in either matches.

The U.S Women’s National Team have not scheduled any matches so far for 2016. Right now, they’ll focus on taking some time to recuperate, relax, and prepare for the coming year. The U-20 World Cup is taking place now in Papua New Guinea, and the U.S Men’s National Team will continue their World Cup qualifying matches tonight, against Costa Rica.
