Impact Awarded a PK, but Sporting Wanted One Too

In a hotly-contested match that ended in a 2-2 draw, the Montréal Impact and Sporting KC went back and forth until the final whistle. Sporting Dom Dwyer netted two goals in Stade Saputo, both equalizers in response to Impact scores. The second Montréal goal was the subject of a lot of controversy Saturday, as a challenge by Sporting midfielder Jimmy Medranda against Didier Drogba resulted in a penalty kick awarded to the Impact. Kansas City called for their own PK just five minutes later when midfielder Benny Feilhaber was tripped up while racing in on goal.

New York Red Bulls Lose Second Straight Down the Stretch

The Red Bulls were in command against the Columbus Crew for the entire first half and into the start of the second, when Bradley Wright-Phillips netted the first goal of the game to give his side the lead. But just like their match the week before against Real Salt Lake, where they held a lead or were tied through 87 minutes, a late charge lost them the chance to walk away with three points. Crew forward Ola Kamara scored in second half stoppage time to snatch the win from New York.

Valeri’s Two Penalty Kicks the Difference for Portland

Houston raced out to a 2-0 lead before the 30-minute mark in Sunday’s affair. The Timbers were able to get one back in the 64th minute, but still trailed heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Diego Valeri would take care of that, as the Dynamo were penalized twice in the box and the Portland midfielder converted both of the spot kicks, the first in the 82nd minute and the second one minute into stoppage time.

Frank Lampard Scores a Controversial Goal for NYCFC

Did it go off his chest or his arm? That was the most-asked question following Frank Lampard’s second goal in as many games on Saturday afternoon, with New York City FC fans saying it played off his chest and Seattle Sounders FC fans saying it played off his hand. Either way, Lampard’s goal in the 38th minute was just the first score for NYC, as defender Ronald Matarrita netted a second goal for his side in the 87th minute as NYCFC moved into second place in the Eastern Conference.
