Barrett’s Extra Time Tap Seals Victory for Sounders

With Seattle’s game against NY Red Bulls winding down to a draw, Chad Barrett got a toe on Clint Dempsey’s volley across the goalmouth to seal three points at home. Barely two minutes after getting off the bench, Barrett leaped into his teammates arms as they celebrated the victory. It was Barrett’s third goal of the season.

Jermaine Jones’ Groin Injury Keeps Him Off USMNT

On the same day that he received the call-up for the upcoming USMNT friendlies, New England Revolution midfielder Jermaine Jones learned he would not be representing his country. Jones injured his groin in the first half of Sunday’s 2-2 draw against the L.A. Galaxy. Jürgen Klisnmann will not be replacing Jones, however. The U.S. takes on the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday before playing Germany on June 10.

Sueño MLS Field Down to Three

Sueño MLS, Major League Soccer’s annual nationwide talent search, is down to the final three. Baltazar Duran, Miguel Acosta, and Isaac Arellano will join GK Eduardo Muñoz in Miami, where a champion will be crowned. The winner will have the opportunity to earn a spot in their local MLS club’s pro academy.

Jose Villareal’s Back Heel Flick Finds Gyasi Zardes

With the game tied, L.A. Galaxy forwards Jose Villareal and Gyasi Zardes combined for a gorgeous go-ahead goal. After controlling Ignacio Maganto’s ball, Villareal lured his defender and flicked it with a hint of nutmeg to Zardes, who curled a beautiful ball past Bobby Shuttleworth to take a 2-1 lead in Foxborough. The Revs would fight back, though, tying 2-2.

Dempsey to Sit Out of USMNT

U.S. captain and forward Clint Dempsey will not participate in the USMNT’s upcoming European friendlies due to the coming birth of the Dempsey’s fourth child. “It’s tough to fly back from Amsterdam or Dusseldorf if your wife’s going to deliver… That’s why Clint wasn’t called in,” said Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid.
